Railscamp 5
After hearing about Railscamp from @IvanVanderbyl, last weekend, I headed off to Railscamp 5 at Koonjewarre Retreat Centre in the Gold Coast Hinterland of Queensland. After speaking with @DylanFM who was driving up from the central coast I scored a lift and everything was planned. For those of you who havnt heard of Railscamp before it is a growing trend in which ruby developers from around the country all get together for a weekend and basically, code.
Railscamp is much more than that. Some of the best ruby developers from around the country attended and gave speeches on everything to do with rails and other programming languages.
Some of the things we got up to
- Made some interesting projects; I ended up making a simple todo list with inline editing and working with @IvanVanderbyl to create a basic twitter clone compleat with image resizing, individual users each with unique galleries and a few more basic features. Among the other projects created by people at the camp was Rubystein multiplayer (3 people were working on making Rubystein – wolfenstein coded in ruby – into a multiplayer game), flekr – our flikr clone and many other projects.
- Alot of Guitar Hero was played over the weekend, every time you need a break a quick walk over to the Guitar Hero room was a welcome bit of space to relax… to rock ‘n roll!
- Another thing we all did alot of was drink beer, coffee and energy drinks.
Would I go again?
Short post I know, but it was an amazing experience and I would definatly love to go again, the connections I made to great people was worth it alone, add that to what I learnt about Ruby on Rails, the fun times, and beer and you will see that Railscamp is definatly worth it!
